Wolf, 2011Stills from 2-channel video projection, without sound, 8'09'' (loop). Raw material: Mercantour National Park, 2000
In the video project I worked on the connection between art and natural science about the wolf, who stands as predator and wild animal for the (wild) nature, and thus for the uncontrollable, mysterious, insidious and invisible. The video work is in addition to the artistic research project for the wolf the result of more than one year of engagement, countless researches and interviews with experts.
In the video work, I used the raw video material from the night video recordings of guard dogs and wolves, so-called infrared video recordings, which were created in 2000 on the Alpage du Longon in Mercantour National Park (France). From this I have created a sequence of 26-piece scenes juxtaposed with two video projections in space with the aim to bring together scientific pictures with an artistic eye, to “poeticize” the images. So I deliberately put existing pixels, camera and camera error information next to animals. This give to all, animals and “error”, an individuality. Camera settings are also part of the visual process and help to improve the image. I lay open the skill of the person behind the camera, which usually remains hidden. The research material is available on a specially created website (only in German): → www.carmenekreis.ch/wolf |
